My friend Dennis McGrath lived in a skate house on Grove street in SF near the now famous Wallenberg School. We used to go skate there most days, and this portrait was before one of those sessions. I got my first Hasselblad in high school while working at a camera shop. I rarely brought it out into the streets because it was so valuable to me, but I knew that I wanted to shoot portraits this day.
